Patriot Baseball Philosophy and Grade Requirements
Patriot Baseball Philosophy: The game of baseball can be used as an instrument in the important lessons of life. The role we have accepted as coaches and educators is to teach the game of baseball at the highest level. An even more important role is to teach life skills through the game of baseball. Teaching and modeling skills such as integrity, respect, the ability to deal with adversity, commitment, responsibility, discipline, dedication, determination, preparation and decision making are done on a daily basis through baseball with the goal of developing strong character in each individual. Developing strong character through the development of these skills will benefit each young man throughout their adult lifetime. Individuals that possess these skills of strong character are those that achieve success in every aspect of their life. It is my responsibility as a coach to provide the atmosphere each day to foster strong character development. Winning baseball games is an important measure of a program’s success, but it should not be the goal. Victories are the end result of reaching the goals of strong character development through the program. In other words; WINNING IS IMPORTANT, BUT WINNING THE RIGHT WAY IS MORE IMPORTANT. Patriot Baseball Academic Policy: In accordance with our belief that playing baseball at Parkway South is a privilege and not a right, the Patriot Baseball Coaching Staff has set our academic standards higher than the state’s requirements of having a minimum of 2.5 credits during the semester prior to the baseball season. As with all privileges, game time must be earned. The number one reason that our student athletes are at South High is to receive a quality education, which is something that cannot be taken away from them. Thanks for your ongoing support as we begin the development of one of the top high school baseball programs in the St. Louis area. Code of Conduct: The Patriot Baseball program also follows the Parkway School District’s Code of Conduct policy. This policy is in place to ensure that there are set consequences for any athlete who is caught using alcohol, illegal drugs or tobacco products during a particular sport season. Athletes are seen as role models in schools, therefore, Parkway strives to hold them to a higher standard. It is also important to remember that athletics are a privilege for students at the high school level and not a right.
